After setting a new record by handling 10 million metric tonnes (MMTs) of cargo in first 45 days of new financial year, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved yet another milestone in May with the collaborative working with all the trading partners marking a historic accomplishment in its 90-year history by recording the highest cargo handling volume of 85,81,927 metric tonnes in May.

This was achieved by handling 221 vessels surpassing the previous record of 76,22,732 metric tonnes from 201 vessels in March 2024. After achieving the highest-ever cargo of little over 80 MMTs, VPA has set a target for 90 MMTs in 2024-25. VPA Chairman M Angamuthu said they could discharge 22,35,891 metric tonnes of coal and bulk coke from 48 vessels, breaking the July 2022 record of 21,39,771 metric tonnes.

The port handled 14,27,223 metric tonnes from 13 crude tankers, surpassing March 2024’s record of 14,24,787 metric tonnes.
